In Arizona, Providence offers services through its wholly owned subsidiaries, Providence of Arizona, LogistiCare, and A to Z In-Home Tutoring.
Since the inception of Providence, Arizona has been the home of corporate offices for the company. Providence of Arizona, Inc. (“Providence of Arizona”) began operations in 1997 after the original merger that formed the basis of the company. With a history of leading the way in managed behavioral health care and home-based services, Providence of Arizona continues to search for innovative ways to meet the needs of the children and families we serve. All programs offered by Providence of Arizona emphasize community-based services as an alternative to the residential care of youth and children.

Providence of Arizona is licensed by the state of Arizona’s Office of Behavioral Health and our Therapeutic Foster Home Program is licensed by the Arizona Department of Economic Security. Therapeutic Foster Care services are provided in Tucson, Phoenix, Yuma, and Flagstaff, under contracts with Value Options, Cenpatico Behavioral Health, Northern Arizona Regional Behavioral Health Authority, and Community Partnership of Southern Arizona.
In Tucson, Providence of Arizona serves as one of the three children’s behavioral health networks in Pima County. Our network of providers offers a full continuum of services, which includes numerous subcontractors and represents a true community effort. In addition to managing the network, our Tucson site offers direct services that include home-based counseling, case management, substance abuse groups, crisis intervention, and Prevention Services.
Research has discovered that one of the most effective strategies parents, grandparents, and other primary caregivers have for raising healthy, well-adjusted children is to frequently eat meals together as a family. Some years ago several prevention oriented people in Tucson began to discuss these research findings. Meetings were held, ideas were discussed, and a vision for how this research could become a “practice” in Tucson and Pima County began to emerge. It quickly became evident that the resources, human and material, were available to undertake a new prevention initiative, and “Make Mealtime Family Time” was born.
Make Mealtime Family Time (MMFT) encourages families with children, including teenagers, to make family mealtime a priority whether at home or eating out. Shared family mealtimes give kids an edge in school; reduce their chances of using alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs like marijuana; improve family communication and relationships; help parents know what’s going on in their kids’ world; create fond, lasting memories; and help kids feel needed, knowing they are a valued part of their family. Currently we are providing MMFT products and support to 31,000 elementary students in sixty-five elementary schools across eight school districts in Tucson and Pima County.
Providence of Arizona also provides a comprehensive array of community based services in Yuma, La Paz, Gila, and Pinal counties through a contract with Cenpatico Behavioral Health of Arizona. Our Parker and Yuma sites offer: home-based counseling, school-based services, case management, Seven Challenges substance abuse group services, and crisis intervention. Our Phoenix site offers direct services that include home-based counseling, case management, crisis intervention, and Seven Challenges substance abuse groups in Pinal and Gila counties.
In Southern Arizona, a web-based Parent and Training Information service called Pilot Parents has been created. Our parents and staff can use Pilot Parents as a support for educational issues. The site offers Partners in Policymaking Training to parents and Providence has worked with parents who have already benefited from this resource. The site also provides a parent support line, new parent support, sibling to sibling support, grandparent support and a lending library of parenting resources.
Providence of Arizona is committed to high quality care that is responsive to the needs of our clients. As we continue to work with children and families all staff will be part of an evolving and growing network of professionals working to help children and families realize their true potential.
A to Z In-Home Tutoring (“A to Z”) provides effective, high-quality tutoring to students to improve their grades and their ability to learn. Many of our clients were born into poverty, and some were abused, neglected or abandoned. With the right inspiration and a little help on the academic front, these kids can quickly catch up in school, get ahead and develop the skills and self-esteem to be successful in life. Individualized programs are tailored to the unique needs of each child and services are offered in the client’s home, at their school or in the community.
Upon completing the A to Z program, students typically acquire six new math skills and six new language arts skills. On average, student composte scores increase by 21% from pre-test scores to post-test scores. And parents love the A to Z program. In surveys of parents completed at the conclusion of every school year, A to Z receives very high marks year in and year out. Parents see improvements in areas such as: grades, behavior at school, attendance and self-esteem. Last year, A to Z’s parent satisfaction rate was 97%.
A to Z was founded in Nashville, TN and provides tutoring to children in 22 states and Washington, DC. A to Z’s corporate office is located in Brentwood, TN.
LogistiCare has been managing non-emergency medical (NEMT) and other social service transportation programs for government agencies and managed care organization (MCOs) since 1989. LogistiCare currently is the nation’s largest and most experienced manager of Medicaid NEMT programs for state governments and MCOs, providing over 17 million NEMT trips annually in 36 states and the District of Columbia. LogsitiCare has also managed other types of human service transportation programs such as ADA paratransit, school transportation, commercial ambulance, and elderly dial-a-ride services.
LogistiCare pioneered what is known as the “brokerage” model for delivering transportation services. Under the brokerage model, the funding entity outsources the management of their transportation benefit to a professional transportation management company, usually under a full-risk capitated financial arrangement. LogistiCare’s consistent record of cost saving and service quality has been instrumental in the increasing adoption of the NEMT broker model by state Medicaid agencies and MCOs throughout the country.
