Therapeutic Foster Care Works!

MC, a five year old male, entered foster care with our agency in April of 2004. He was placed through an entrustment agreement between the mother and a local Social Service Agency, so that the mother could voluntarily admit herself to a 30 day drug treatment program.

During the child’s stay in foster care, our agency had several contacts with the mother’s boyfriend and learned the child was in need of a urology consult due to a failed surgery in the past. Our Case Manager tried to get the Department of Social Services to pay for the surgery but they said he would not be in care long enough. The child was then recommended for a second surgery and we encouraged the mother’s boyfriend to follow up on this once the child returned home.

Throughout MC’s placement our staff kept the family notified of the child’s progress and activities. MC returned to his mother’s care in June, 2004. A few weeks later MC, his mother and his mother’s boyfriend came into the office requesting any assistance we might offer to have the surgery scheduled for MC. After photocopying medical records and contacting the Urologist’s Office, the family left with the intent of scheduling the surgery now that they had the medical records they needed.

Therapeutic Foster Care made a significant difference in the life of this child, and a necessary surgery will now take place that may have once been neglected.
